A group of faculty members from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (lnterdisciplinary Research Center on Sustainability and Climate and the Center of Plant Sciences) has been invited by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) and the Embassy of Italy in Qatar to hold two seminars at Expo 2023, which is being held in Doha. The events take place between Wednesday, March 6th and Thursday, March 7th at the Italian Pavilion and are among those proposed by "The Garden of the Future", which brings together some of the most advanced discoveries of Italian scientific research for a more sustainable future.

Crops, global warming, climate resilience, severe drought and extreme rainfall and their consequences on harvesting, integration between genomics and traditional knowledge of farmers are the theme that unites the talks proposed by the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies delegation.


Wednesday, March 6th at 5 p.m. (7 p.m. in Italy) is the seminar "Tomorrow's harvest while rushing toward global warming" with Roberto Buizza, professor of Physics, and Matteo dell'Acqua, professor of Agricultural Genetics. The title of Roberto Buizza's talk is "Tomorrow's harvest while rushing toward global warming" and that of Matteo dell'Acqua's "Tomorrow's harvest: sowing seeds of climate resilience with genetic innovation".

Thursday, March 7th at 5 p.m. (7 p.m. in Italy) is the seminar "From farmers knowledge to genomics for more resilient plants" featuring Pierdomenico Perata, professor of Plant Physiology, and Mario Enrico Pe', professor of Agricultural Genetics. The title of Pierdomenico Perata's talk is "Too much or too little water: different climate scenarios impacting on plants" and that of Mario Enrico Pe' is "Is it conceivable to integrate farmers' traditional knowledge with genomics to address the challenges posed to agriculture by climate change? Insights from Africa".
